Welcome to
Mapstoreonline.com, in partnership with eMapStore.com.
Together, we offer more than 10,000 maps for locations throughout the world.

A
common type of map we offer is the folded paper map. The typical folded paper map is for a particular US state and
includes major roads such as Interstates, US and State Highways plus other major
roads. In addition, these typically have "inset maps" of
selected cities within the state at greater detail. The
popular brands for this type of map in the U.S. are Rand McNally and Universal
though there are several other brands of similar quality.
These come in a variety of scales depending upon the area to be covered
but generally are in the order of 1:200,000 to 1:4,000,000.
Typical prices on folded paper state maps are $4.95.
Another
type of folded paper map common to the USA is the county, local, or city street
maps. Generally these show street detail including small subdivision
streets, local county roads, and city streets. Scales for these types of
maps are generally in the order of 1:10,000 to 1:50,000. Typical brands include Rand McNally, Universal, Accurate,
Alexandria, and Thomas Brothers. Typical price on this product is $4.95.
In
addition to paper maps, for a little more costs one can obtain the laminated
versions of some state and city maps. An example is Rand McNally's
Easy-to-Fold. Typical price on this type of product is $7.95.
For
greater ease of navigating at greater detail, some select counties and cities
also have atlases. These multipage books come in stapled bound or spiral
bound formats. The staple bound is less expensive with prices typically in
the $10 - $15 range. Spiral bound atlases generally cost $5 to $10
more. The advantage of the spiral product is that it lies flat when
opened. Generally atlases lend
themselves to be easier to use compared to folded maps since unfolded maps can
have dimensions on the order of a few feet where as atlases are generally 8 x 10
inches or similar. However, atlases tend to be heavier and bulkier.
Wall
maps are another great mapping tool. These generally are rolled maps
though folded varieties occur too. These large dimension products can be
either paper or laminated. Prices tend to be on the order of $10 to $50 or
more. High quality wall maps, such as those found at libraries, are
generally in the order of $100 - $200 price range. Wall map coverage can be for cities, counties, states, countries,
continents and the world.
For
USA traveling, handy type of product is the USA Atlas. The typical USA
atlas shows all 50 US States plus Canadian provinces and Mexico. This is
generally a better buy than individual state maps when traveling through more
than one state. USA Atlases generally run around $10 to $25 depending upon the
style and scale selected. The most popular brand is the Rand McNally Road
Atlas which is published annually.
Another
atlas worth considering is the Delorme Atlas & Gazetteer series. Every
atlas in this series represents a different state. This series is great
for navigating an entire state and was originally geared toward outdoor
recreation use though is very useful for navigating streets. One drawback
is that only some streets are labeled. However, these include landform
feature information such as topographic contours plus information on area
attractions including recreation, museums, historical sites, etc. This is
a great resource for exploring whether your own backyard or someplace new.
These are approximately $20 per state though can vary depending upon the state.
In
addition to travel related maps, we also provide a wide range of outdoor
recreation maps. These are primarily geared toward hiking though we also
carry some biking maps. Generally these maps are for limited
selected areas. Hiking and outdoor recreation maps are common for areas
such as National Parks, National Forests and other parklands. These maps
tend to show contours, trails, roads plus other detailed landform data.
The most common brand are the Trails Illustrated maps though other brands are
also offered. Typical price for a water resistant map is $10.
We also offer biking
maps for specific areas. These include the maps produced by Rubel Bike
Maps.
